The Collie Club of Alabama, Inc. was first started in
the early 1960's by a group of Collie fanciers in the Birmingham, Alabama
area. The club quickly grew and has over the years consistently hosted
Specialties and other educational events.
We currently have ____ active members. Most members are
also members of our Parent Club, The Collie Club of America. We also have
Junior Membership. The Juniors in our club are a true assetto the Membership
and to the breed. They participate in our educational functions, seminars,
as well as take on special projects. They are the true handlers of the
future, and in many cases, of today as well!
In 1996, two of our Club Members who had attended The
Collie Club of America Foundation's Sunnybank Weekend came up with an
idea for our Club to host an annual event, inviting people from all over
to participate. This was the beginning of "Getting
To Know You" Weekend. This weekend event takes place to help
raise money for the Collie Club of America Foundation, an organization
which raises money to provide grants for research on the health of the
collie. This event has become one of the most successful educational events
in Collie Club of Alabama history. We have enjoyed the company of many
collie breeders, sitting on panels and discussing a wide variety of topics;
Dr. Cindi Bossart, Brenda Miramon, and many others. The year 2001 marks
our 5th anniversary of this event, and we feel is will be better than
ever. GTKY-2001 starts the beginning of our new "home". It will
take place at the Rolling Hills Camp, located in Calera, Alabama, just
south of Birmingham. This is a most beautiful wooded area that will allow
us to offer much more than ever for this power packed weekend.
In addition to the seminars and clinics, we host our
Spring Specialty during that same weekend. Be sure and check out the website
dedicated to the specialty.
The Collie Club of Alabama welcomes new members who are
interested in learning more about this wonderful breed. We feel there
is a place in our club for the active showman, hobby kennel, and those
who enjoy the collie as a family companion.
